What's new at the Home Port of Big Gun Warship
Combat?
2008-03-26 2007-11-09 - Updated Photos page with an embedded video player playing Big Gun Warship combat videos from YouTube.
- Updated Ship-to-Ship page to reflect current groups/mailing lists being serviced by Yahoo.
2007-09-27
The site transferred to a new port a couple of months ago.
I'm working on getting things updated.
Put up a preview of the new Naval War
College page. There is still some work to do before making
it official.

Updated the Project
California page. For those that have followed the VERY long
on-again /off-again saga, you might be interested in learning
that a CNC mill has been found and on its way. This opens up all
kinds of possibilities for Project California, and maybe some
other things as well.

Updated the Homeports page
with a new link to the R/C Naval Supply, and new parts provider
of props, struts and bilge pumps. Also, added a link to Solder
Tools, a provider of butane solder tools, torches, guns and
supplies.

Added a hull photo section to the Project
California page. Details on the frame assembly and cannon
mock-up position. Also added a somewhat off-topic photo section
dedicated to my Arizona model. This is a post-Pearl model,
repreenting the ship as she was on December 10, 1941. USS
Arizona, BB-39, Photo Album.

Added 2 articles to the Naval War
College page. They are "Quality Combat," published
in the AusBG newsletter in July, 2002, and "The Condensed
History of Combat Capable Torpedo Development."

The Naval War College was
updated with three articles by Stuart Calvert, of the NZBG, a
1/96 scale club. The first 2 were included because of their
excellent technique of producing great superstructure detail with
ease and speed. The 3rd presents a rotation option for
single-barrel piston selector-type cannons.

Search Ops Redesigned the Search
Page to better serve Big Gun sites, and to effectively eliminate
unrelated outside hits. Several homepages were added to the
index, and some strategic restrictions were incorporated to block
generic, or useless information.

Repaired and updated many internal links. Project
California will grow rather large, so it now has its own
directory. Text links on each page were updated, and 2 sections
were de-listed until further work can be applied.

After-Action Reports gets its
first input from Australia! The information comes from their mail
list and is donated to us by Bill Kirwin and Brett Farquharson.
Other clubs are encouraged to submit their reports as well!
Homeports now lists 5 "for
sale" pages. Start your searches at one of these sites.

The first update of 2000? (I won't get into the millenium
/non-millenium debate). The Hull Survivability Study in the Naval
War College was updated to add Sovietskii Soyuz, Borodino and
Kronshtadt. The information came to me by way of favor from Brent
Jernigan, member of MBG. Thanks Brent.
Homeports now has an image
header. For those of you that might be interested, the left shot
shows the USS Arizona in port. The right image is of the USS
Arkansas in port.
The Homeports page also has 2 new "For Sale"
links added. Eventually, am internal page with sale links will be
added to this site to answer search queries. (Due to the number
of Homepage links, that page is NOT listed as searchable.)

12/22/99
The Naval War College article collection is mostly online.
Construction and Operations, and Warfighting both are missing one
article. Miscellaneous has none.
A couple more graphics are loaded. Search Page is one of
them
Speaking of the Search Page, it now indexes well over 300
pages. NTXBG was not in the initial search runs. (Oooops, sorry
John.) : )
12/20/99
The Search page is now active. My last report shows that
289 pages throughout the world of Big Gun have been indexed, with
over 215,000 words. This is a first, and hopefully one that will
be worth more than its effort. This search system gets smarter
with new searches, and increases its accuracy over time, or so
says the search company. Access it from the Navigation Bridge.
Some of the new graphics are loaded, specifically (if you
care to look) the headers for Enlist, After Action Reports, Home
and Naval War College. Others will follow this week at random
intervals.
12/16/99
The day after. The Rules page
was uploaded. It includes 2 files that represent the complete
BGCWI Rules of 1997. Read the page for pertinent information on
the Rules current status. BGCWI Rules, 1997.
The partially completed Enlist
page was uploaded. The link to Home Ports returns no page since
Home Ports is not ready for publication yet.
The Naval
War College page was uploaded. The articles listed in it will
be loaded later. Check out the topics and layout. Annapolis
graphics not loaded.
The Ship to Ship page was
uploaded. Graphics not included. Features Mail-List instructions
and information on live communication efforts.
12/15/99
The Big Gun page is partially uploaded. This includes a
few basic components, including the majority of the Navigation
Bridge. Most of the options are not functional just yet, and a
couple have been left out. Visitors that are familiar with the
old site will be comfortable with the form of this new one,
though the full functionality of its completed form will be far
superior.
Most of the graphics have been left out pending "tweaking".
