Big Gun Rules - All Clubs Information

Big Gun warship combat is played by many clubs around the world. The overwhelming majority of clubs use a rule set based on the original North American Standard Rules, or NASR. The NASR formed the basis of most clubs core rules. Over time, some of the rules were amended, altered, or completely rewritten to suit individual club tastes. While differences obviously exist, there are very few that would make playability between clubs difficult.

The purpose of this page will be to present the various rule sets of Big Gun clubs in a comparison format. The most influential clubs have historically been the Midwest Battle Group and the South Coast Battle Group. Almost all other clubs use modified rules from MBG or SCBG, which at one point were practically identical. This will be apparent from the comparison. Differences will be notated for your review.

The Editor will make slightly biased notations as to which of the variant rules might be preferable. These are in no way endorsed by any club. These notations will be made based on review of playability and historical application. The notated rules sections, subsections and individual items can be used by new clubs looking to enter into the hobby with a head start in the effort to be "combat compatible" with the rest of the Big Gun world.
