STERN KEEL /FRAME - Part 2

This second animation shows how the stern keel interfaces with the baseboard. The technique is simple: the baseboard is notched to accept the vertical keel, and the keel is notched at the front so that a portion of it overlaps the baseboard. Where the two meet and pass, thick CA glue tack-welds them together during initial placement. Afterwards, they are epoxied for great strength. When the ribs and capdeck are in place, the structure's strength is enhanced even more.

Here, the animation picks up where the first one left off. You can see the keel /frame structure getting stripped down. Notice that the keel and baseboard are the last things shown before the whole image takes a flip and views the hull shape from above. After the hull shape is represented, you see the baseboard superimposed, with the notches cut into the sides for the ribs, and into the ends for the keels.

The top view shows how the keel is inserted into the baseboard, and how the ribs look when attached to the keel.
